A small publishing project covering one narrow subject: which garden nest boxes are actually built for birds, and which are built to look good on a fence.
Why this website exists
Garden birdware is sold almost entirely on charm. Hole size, wall thickness, ventilation and whether a box can be opened and cleaned are the things that decide whether a bird uses it, and none of them photograph well. Fancy Wooden House exists to look at that plainly — what makes a nest box work, and which species will realistically use one.
We are a consumer information website. We do not make, sell or ship any product, and we are not ornithologists. Nothing we publish is professional wildlife advice.
The product category we cover
Our coverage focuses on nest boxes, feeders and garden woodwork — how they are built, where they should hang, and which claims made about them survive a check. The Binrem wooden nest box is the product featured on our homepage.
This is a category where the marketing regularly outruns the biology. The clearest example: small wooden boxes sold as “hummingbird houses”. Hummingbirds build open cup nests on branches and do not use enclosed boxes at all — so we say so on the page, even where the product is named after them. Which birds use a box, and whether any do, depends on where you live, what nests nearby, the season and the placement.
